Embodying a loose resemblance of champagne bubbles, the Bolla is a playful approach to storing you bottled goods. Bolla has a capacity of 10 bottles and accommodates for bottles up to a 120mm diameter (regular size).
Bolla is made from a single repeating profile of 6mm poplar plywood, it has three pine support rods which are spaced using washers cut out from the negative space removed for the bottles. The whole structure is put into compression by screwing the two end plates together, a very simply yet effective solution to the wine racks assembly; doing more with less.
The design ethos behind the Bolla is ‘to create seaming complexity from the repetition of the simple singular form’. The Bolla embodies this philosophy fully and creates interesting and complex patterns with the wood as you look through the wine compartments. The unit also comes in a natural finish, untreated. This creates a paradox between accurately defined design forms, and original materials, with evidence of its manufacturing process. It’s piece that tells a story of where it has come from and alludes to its manufacture.
The Bolla wine rack is the third piece of four in Neil Macqueen’s ‘Divisione Collection’.
